A session titled "Container Logistics in the Rhythm of Change" was held at the Eastern Economic Forum, dedicated to the industry's development prospects and strengthening the role of the Far East in the transport and logistics system of Russia and the Asia-Pacific region. The session was moderated by Alexander Kakhidze, Head of the Group of Companies.
The discussion brought together representatives from the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Russian Railways, the Government of Primorsky Krai, the Federal Customs Service, the business community, and expert circles. Participants addressed the current state of the container market, the development of transport infrastructure, the launch of new routes, and the use of technologies to enhance transport efficiency.
Despite external challenges, the container market has shown positive dynamics this year. According to the session participants, significant potential for further growth lies in raising the level of containerisation of cargo, developing foreign trade, and increasing trade turnover with friendly countries.
Special attention was paid to the Far East, where new freight routes are currently being shaped and modern transport and logistics infrastructure is being established. One of its key elements is TLC Artyom – Russia's largest dry port, launched one year ago under the leadership of Vladimir Putin.
The panellists emphasised that further growth in container traffic requires synchronised development of all transport system components. This concerns not only railway and terminal infrastructure but also wagon manufacturing, the development of border crossings, and improved customs administration efficiency.
Another driver of growth should be the expansion of the cargo base. In particular, the launch of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex will generate significant cargo flows in the Far East and will require advance preparation of container fleets, rolling stock, and terminal infrastructure.
The issue of workforce training was discussed separately. As supply chains become more complex and new technologies are introduced, the industry needs professionals with competencies in international logistics, digital solutions, and the management of modern transport systems.
At the conclusion of the discussion, participants agreed that the Far East's role as the primary "gateway" for a substantial share of Russia's export-import cargo flows will continue to grow. All the necessary conditions are already being put in place for this macro-region to strengthen its position not only as a key logistics hub for Russia but also as a significant element of the transport system for the entire Asian region.
